Gamla Linköping Open-Air Museum has a large collection of handicraft, home furnishing and agricultural objects. Many of these objects are displayed in the museums in the area, while others are in storage.
In terms of time the collections are mainly from the 1800s and the early 1900s. Most of the buildings in the neighbourhood were brought from the city of Linköping, and the objects often have some connection to it. There are also rural buildings, with corresponding collections about peasant life.
In the past many Linköping residents were craftspeople, so the collections include many handicraft objects. There are carpentry, shoemaking and goldsmithing tools, as well as equipment from an old-time pharmacy and barber shop.
The collections also include furniture and housewares, school wall charts, maps, doors and disassembled tiled stoves, and much more.
In the museum wardrobe there are garments from the 1870s to the 1970s including hats and shoes. There is also a costume closet with copies made of clothing from the early 1800s to the early 1900s. The collection of about a thousand garments plays an important role in bringing Gamla Linköping to life.
